Doula Support

Antenatally:

I take the time to get to know you, your family and what is important to you.

Birth preparation – discussing the stages of labour, the physiology and the role of the hormones.

Previous birth de-brief – talking through what might have happened and why.

3 Step Rewind – deep relaxation, focussing on gently moving through any past experience to enable you to look to the future with confidence.

Birth preferences – exploring options together.

Postnatal wellness preferences – exploring what you will need as a family to ensure you feel equipped, secure and empowered in the early postnatal days, weeks and months.

Infant feeding preparation – expanding or refreshing your knowledge of newborn feeding so that you feel confident to breastfeed or bottle feed.

Birth:

I go on-call for you from 37 weeks until after birth.

For your baby’s birth I will be there to support you in any way that you need at the time. My aim is for you to feel empowered by your choices and to feel unconditionally supported in them.

I will be your biggest cheerleader, or quiet observer – whatever your needs are at the time. I can provide relaxation reminders, and give you that boost of confidence when needed.

I am trained in using a woven scarf to help release pressure during pregnancy and labour. I am also trained in using movement to assist optimal positioning for birth – another thing up my sleeve which could come in handy.

Of course, I would be honoured to spend time with older siblings if they are around during your labour and/or birth.

I have access to various birth equipment for you, including birth balls and birth pools.

Postnatally:

Enter parenthood feeling well-equip and supported.

Support with infant feeding – I’m a trained breastfeeding peer supporter, with great contacts to other lactation support.

Giving you emotional reassurance – a good old chat with a cupper and a cake can do wonders!

Assisting with practical stuff around the house – sticking the washing on, or unloading the dishwasher!

I bring meals and make tea – nutritious and plant-based.

Entertaining older siblings – I’m also a trained childcare practitioner!

Holding the baby while you sleep, or shower.

Celebrating in your birth story and your new parenthood!

I want you to know that it is completely normal to need support during this transformative time. It is necessary that new parents are taken care of, as they find their feet caring for a tiny new person.

Doulas work alongside midwives and other healthcare professionals and are not medically trained.
